IN CLASS WORK


1. Watch the video and answer:

What are three mistakes people make when drawing?

How can you avoid them?

 

 

2. List 3 objects that you would like to bring in to draw.

Choose an object that:

  • Has personal importance to you. Do not bring in expensive items that could be lost or stolen.  

  • Fits in your locker or tub (between 6”-12”).

  • Will not perish. No leaves, food...etc.

  • Challenges you, and that has details, volume/ dimension.  NO CARTOONS.

Use this chart of difficulty levels to help you decide:

STILL LIFE OBJECT DRAWING

STEP #1: Thumbnail Sketches

Thumbnail Sketches: Small sketches that help decide how to draw the object on your paper. 

First Divide the paper into quarters.

Write the following in the boxes:

1. Thumbnail Sketch: Side

2. Thumbnail Sketch: Top Side

3. Thumbnail Sketch: Bottom Side

4. Thumbnail Sketch: Bottom Up

STEP #2: Draw Various Angles

Rotate your object and draw it in the boxes.

  • Make sure you show the shadows and highlights

 

Hint: You can use a stencil tool to make circles.

STEP #3: Practice Woodgrain

Practice drawing the wood grain on the table.  Pick a spot on the table and draw the grain exactly as you see it.  

  • Make sure the grain lines are all going the same direction.

STEP #4: Rough Sketch

 

In Class: Draw your object large and in detail on a sheet of paper 8.5"x11".

 

Add: 

  •  a line to separate the table from the background.

    • The background should be black (as dark as you can shade your pencil).​

  • Include the shadow and woodgrain.

Elearning: Choose one of your thumbnail sketches and add:

  •  a line to separate the table from the background.

STEP #5: Final Drawing

 

IN CLASS: Draw your final object drawing on a sheet of paper: 12" x 18".

E-LEARNING: Draw your final object drawing on a sheet of paper: 8.5" x 11".
